Big Idea:  Do the little things the right way

Scripture: Colossians 3:23 – Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.

Warm-up:

-What are some things that you are tempted to cut corners on and not give it your best (practice, school, conditioning, etc.)?

-Why is it hard for us to do our best on things that we don’t like or that we don’t think are important?

Game Time Discussion:

Read the following scripture aloud: Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.  Colossians 3:23

-God calls us to give our best effort in everything we do. We will always be tempted to not give full effort in some things we do, especially things we don’t like. It’s easy to cut corners when nobody is watching. It’s easy to be someone who goes halfway in practice and doesn’t give their best. But when we do this, we are not living to the full potential that God call us to.

-What are some ways we can work as if we were working for God and not for man? What are some things you’ve been giving less than full effort to that you can start doing your best in as if you were working for God and not for man?

Concluding Thought: It’s easy to be like everybody else. It’s easy to go with the crowd and do things the way everybody else does them. But God calls us to a different way of life. He wants us to do our best in everything we do. He’s given us talents and gifts for us to use to glorify Him. Let’s give it our best as a way we can worship and be thankful for the gifts and talents God has blessed us with.

Game Time Challenge: Luke 16:10 says “If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities” Be faithful in the little things today. Do your best in the small things, it will lead to success in the bigger things. Maximize the mundane today.

Prayer: God, thank you for being a God that calls us to reflect you by giving our best in every aspect of life, no matter how big or small. Thank you for the things that you’ve given us and keep us humble and thankful as we pursue you. Give us the strength to do our best as if we were working for you and not for man in this life knowing that it’s you working in us to carry it out. In Jesus name, AMEN.
